Prawn Toast

Prawn Toast

Description

The perfect snack or side to accompany your oriental feast. This recipe for Prawn Toast is quick, easy and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 550g Green Prawns, peeled, de-veined
  • 6 Slices White Bread, day-old
  • 1 Salad Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 tsp. Cornflour
  • 1 tsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1/3 Cup Sesame Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp. White Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 2cm Piece Ginger, peeled, grated
  • Peanut Oil, for frying

Method

  1. To start, preheat the oven to 150°C.

  2. Remove the bread crusts from each of the 6 slices of bread and cut each slice into 4 triangles.

  3. Gently pat the prawns dry with a paper towel and place in a food processor with the egg white, cornflour, ginger, onion, soy sauce, white pepper and salt. Blitz until smooth.

  4. Distribute the prawn mixture evenly over each triangle of bread.

  5. Next, sprinkle the sesame seeds onto a plate or chopping board and dip each triangle of bread, prawn side down into the sesame seeds.

  6. Then pour oil into a wok or frying pan and heat until a small piece of bread sizzles when dropped into the oil.

  7. Cook each triangle of bread, prawn side down, for approx. 1 minute. Then turn and cook for approx. 25 seconds or until golden.

  8. Remove to a wire rack to drain the excess oil and serve.
