Traditional Mexican Chicken with Smoky Morita Sauce (Pollo en Salsa Morita)

Experience authentic Mexican flavors with this easy recipe for tender chicken simmered in a rich, smoky Morita chili sauce. Perfect for a hearty dinner, this dish can be prepared in a skillet or slow cooker and uses readily available Molli Veracruz Cooking Sauce. Enjoy a healthy, low-fat meal with a delightful kick, and transform leftovers into delicious flautas.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Chicken thighs, legs or breasts
  • 3 Cloves garlic
  • 4 Black peppercorns
  • 2 Cloves, whole
  • ½ tsp Cumin, ground
  • ¼ Onion
  • ½ cup Chicken broth or water
  • 1 jar Molli Veracruz Cooking Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Oil

Method

¢ Season chicken lightly with salt and pepper. Set aside. ¢ In a blender, puree the garlic, peppercorns, cloves, cumin and onion with the broth and set aside. ¢ Heat the oil in a large skillet. Add the puree, stir and cook over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Add the Veracruz Cooking Sauce, bring to a boil, and lower heat to simmer and cook for 5 more minutes. ¢ Add the chicken, cover and cook over low heat for 25 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked. You can also use a slow cooker, and cook it for 4 hours on low. Enjoy!

¢ Tip: use leftovers to make flautas de pollo
