Phanna Upkari ( Konkani Fish curry)

This is a favourite of all Konkani fish eaters. It is by far the most tastiest fish curry I have prepared. Credit goes to the Sierra fish, which complements the flavor of this curry

Ingredients

  • 1 big Sierra(spanish mackeral) fish( ~ 2 lbs)
  • Cleaned and steaked into 1/2 to 1 inch pieces
  • 2 large chopped onions
  • Spice mixture : Roasted red chillies 8-10, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds , chilli pdr (1/2 tsp),salt to taste
  • Tamarind paste, and a1 spoon of red tomato paste( optional)

Method

This is my tasty phanna upkari, I found a new variety of fish,called Sierra, think its salt water ,looked like mackerel, very yummy,have to try it, Phoenix residents can find it in Lee-Lee’s grocery store , Roasted red chillies 8-10, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds , tamarind paste, chilli pdr (1/2 tsp),salt to taste Stirfry 2 chopped onions until brown, add fish ,grind th e above masala and add to it ands simmer till fish is cooked
