Mom’s Wondra Chocolate Cake Recipe

Cooking time: 25- 30 ,min.

Description

This is a super easy DARK chocolate to whip up. I think my mother got this off of a Wondra container years ago.

Ingredients

  • 1-2/3 cups Wondra Flour
  • 2/3 cups cocoa
  • 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cups shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups lowfat buttermilk
  • 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla

Method

Throw all the ingredients in your mixer bowl (stand mixer preferred) and mix for about 1 minute on medium. Pour into 2 - 8" prepared* pans and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 25 - 30 minutes.

Remove cake from pans after it’s cooled for about 15 minutes. Then let cake completely cool before frosting.

*I prepare my cake pan by coating it with shortening first, then sprinkle with flour and then line them with parchment paper. Even with non-stick pans, you still need to do this.

Frost this cake with the frosting recipe on the Hershey’s Cocoa container.

Tip for frosting a cake: Use the Winlton 8 in. Angled Spatula (best tool out there for frosting a cake). If your frosting is a little dry, dip your spatula in cold water as you frost the cake. Makes the frosting very pliable and spreads easier.
