Homemade Chicken & Dumplings

Description

Like Cracker Barrel, but better!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 chicken bullion cubes
  • 1 pkg Mary B’s open kettle dumplings (freezer section at Wal-Mart)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp each Garlic & Onion powder

Method

Place a whole chicken in a dutch oven with water almost covering chicken Boil the chicken for about 45 minutes to 1 hour take the chicken out of the water and let cool. Add two bullion cubes to remaining water that the chicken cooked in and bring to boil. Break the dumplings into 1/3 pieces and drop into boiling water. While the dumplings are boiling, debone the chicken and stir dumplings frequently.
Add chicken meat to dumplings along with the salt, pepper and other seasonings.
Dumplings should boil for 15 minutes and cook on med/simmer for 30 more minutes. The longer the dumplings cook, the thicker they will get.
