Easy Black Mocha Cake Recipe: Homemade Chocolate Coffee Delight

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 c sugar
  • 1 3/4 c unbleached white flour
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 c vegetable oil
  • 1 c fresh strong coffee, at room temp (I usually mix up some instant coffee)
  • 1 c milk, buttermilk, or yogurt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter or spray cake pan.

I large bowl:sift together cocoa, sugar, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In other bowl: with whisk, beat together oil, coffee, milk (or yogurt), eggs, and vanilla.

Pour half of the wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Add the remaining wet ingredients and stir until incorporated.

Pour batter into prepared pan(s). Bake for 20-40 minutes (see below) until knife comes out clean. Cool before frosting.

Baking times: 9x13 in pan: 25-30 min 10 in bundt pan: 30-35 min two 9 in round pans: 35-40 min two standard 12-cup muffin tins: about 20 min
